The Shenzhen Institute of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University (SIEM) is an industry-university-research platform founded by the Tsinghua University School Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM). SIEM aims to catch the important opportunities of the construction strategy of Shenzhen Socialist Pilot Demonstration Zone and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to build a top-notch national thinktank, conduct in-depth research, help build Shenzhen into a world-class city of innovation with many first-class innovative enterprises, and offer valuable insights into management practice.

SIEM will rely on Tsinghua SEM’s solid academic foundation and scientific research capacity. Its research focus will be on topics related to digital economy, innovation, entrepreneurship, FinTech, the One Belt and One Road Initiative, the Greater Bay Area, the Shenzhen model, and Shenzhen’s experience. SIEM will concentrate on building an impactful thinktank and academic platforms related to four topics: financial technology, digital economy, innovation and entrepreneurship, and building the Greater Bay Area and demonstration zone of socialism with Chinese characteristics in Shenzhen. It will cooperate with the government, companies and other organizations to study major theoretical and practical issues concerning the development of Shenzhen as well as innovative companies, start-ups, and established companies in the Greater Bay Area in order to tell the Shenzhen story. SIEM will regularly hold high standard academic seminars and international forums in order to facilitate and serve regional and national development strategies.

SIEM is committed to providing high-quality education, conducting first-class scientific research, and promoting commercialization of research outputs in Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area. It also aims to help Tsinghua attract and cultivate top talents, create a leading platform for economics and management research and practice. SIEM is committed to support Shenzhen to be a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics and a center of innovation and entrepreneurship with global impact.
